On paraphrasing the slogan of the National Rifle Association, the highest Texas authority invited faithfuls to go to religious services with a weapon.
According to our European point of view that is very different from the American one, this suggestion may seem abnormal but if we want to understand the sense we can’t disregard American culture.
The free possession of weapons, provided for by the 11° amendment of the Consitution, is basic for the founders of the American nation and such culture, at least according to the point of view of the collective imagination, wasn’t,after all,so different in Italy if we think of the great success, at least in the second half of the last century, Western movies had got. Those who aren’t now so young can’t forget, when they were children, one of their favourite games was to play Indians against cowboys.
In the specific case, against the death of an aggressive subject there was the death of 26 pacific people with a 3.85% proportion of aggressive-pacific persons.
Now it should be interesting to see, in the social American system, the ratio between pacific people and aggressive ones ideal to warrant the homeostasis of the system that, in this case, would intend a society without an unexplained human aggressiveness and above all without massacres. Was the 3.85% lost of aggressive people enough to bring the system back to homeostasis (the ideal ratio between pacific people and aggressive ones)?
If it weren’t like that, paradoxically, the Texan proxy’s suggestion to go to religious services with a weapon should make sense.
In fact, by now, it is acknowledged Devin Kelley, the killer, was faced by an armed man who chased him out of the church and so he was compelled to escape on his suv. When he was found inside his car mortally wounded, it isn’t certain whether he committed suicide or, as it seems probable, was shot by the chaser.
Therefore if, as Ken Paxton suggested, the faithfuls had been armed and had immediately started a firefight against the killer, maybe the pacific people killed should have been fewer while the dead aggressive ones should have been more.
In fact it’s inconfutable that those who go to a religious service with a weapon and can face the fire of a semiahtomatic AR-15 rifle can’t but be included in the category of aggressive people according to the theory of genetic feedback or negative retroaction.
Also in Texas massacre there is an analogy with the first American massacre, carried out by Charles Whitman in 1966.
Like the latter also Devin Kelley had been a soldier in the American Air Force between 2010 and 2014 and always like Whitman he had been demoted and dishonorably discharged after being sentenced to one year’s imprisonement to have abused his wife and son.
The Air Force hadn’t informed FBI about the sentence of the court-martial. In fact according to the federal law the reporting of the sentence would have caused Devin Kelley‘s name to be inserted in a database and this would have prevented the man from buying and possessing weapons.
