Unfortunately many times it isn’t enough for a mother to abandon her child and, driven by a strong homicidal will, she kills him (murderous mothers).
The means used are the ones more within reach: from the toilet paper thrust into his throat, a brassière tightened around his neck, the water of the toilet bowl to drown him. Also when the child becomes older the refusal can express itself with an abandonment or a homicide. A son may be abandoned on a ski run at -22°C or, if he is very ill in a hospital and his healthy sister by a petrol pump. Sometimes he is hurled out of a car and he tries vainly to clutch at the doors. It isn’t worth hoping for something better at least on his birthday because just on that day a child from a town near Bari is thrown out of his house.
In the States, where things are done in a big way, it may happen to find, in a toy shop, a four-year-old child who can remember, perfectly, his parents’ and sister’s names, has memorized multiplication tables and the alphabet, can recognize even the place where he is(North Caroline) on the map and yet nobody turns up to claim him back.
In spite of the discovery of efficacious contraceptive means, their free distribution through family bureaux, facilities to favour the so called responsible maternity, the abandonment of newborn babies is a problem which is very topical even now and since there is no alternative to rubbish bins, somebody thought the old wheels of the innocents (baby hatch) should be restored in a modern way.
In Civitavecchia and in Palermo, a metallic opening which is heated, with a sensor that enters into action as soon as a baby is put down, this way informing the nuns inside, was carried out in the boundary wall of two convents. A bank was the sponsor of the initiative. There are about twenty cradles like that in Germany and in a short time also Rome should have one.
The destiny of abandoned babies isn’t, therefore, the worst because they can always hope to find a new family who welcome them.
On the contrary the destiny of some other children starved, tortured and killed by their own parents is horrible: all over the world the number of cases is enormous, the motivations on which they are based are absurd.
In Holland a dentist and his wife kill their three children because shocked by the death for leukaemia of their fourth son, the oldest one.
In London a father kills, at a distance of two years the one from the other, his first son and the second one, both of them few months old, he had from his first wife. After divorcing and getting married again he kills his three-month-old daughter his new wife gave him. When he was discovered he says that ” newborn babies’ tears disturbed him”.
In New York, in the shadow of skyscrapers, very sweet girls are left to starve, abandoned among blackbeetles and rats by mothers poverty and alcohol have brutalized. A five-year-old child, always in New York, is killed by her mother and granmother ” to set her free from satan”: to do this they give her a lethal mixture of ammonia, vinegar, black pepper, Cayenne pepper, olive oil and close her mouth with a sticky tape in order to avoid she can spit the cocktail. Not even among well-to do or rich classes children can be quiet, the only difference is, in these cases it’s often difficult to accuse their parents even if suspicions are very strong. A very nice six-year-old child who was elected” little miss Colorado” is found raped and killed in the cellar of her house.
When a couple separates and one of the two partners decides to commit suicide, he(or she) often does so together with his(or her) children, instead somebody else only kills his(or her) own children to revenge himself(or herself) on the partner for the abandonment.
Not even a disease can save children from a death caused by their parents: in a London hospital, after a series of unexplained deaths in the paediatrics ward, it is decided to install some hidden telecameras which document the terrible tortures of parents against young patients.
