Among all the episodes of serial killers that media, almost weekly, points out, recently one of them about a 31 year old woman, a mother of two children who changed into a ferocious serial killer, drew people’s attention. Joanna Dennehy, in about few minutes, 14 to be precise, murdered three men and two more were wounded. In the past of this woman the investigators didn’t find anything that could justify her criminal behaviour. Therefore media starts inquiring into what causes her longing to kill. Dr Lundrigan, a criminologist and teacher at Anglia Ruskin University, tried to explain: “Joanna longs to reach fame at all costs”.
Before and after every crime Joanna would set a photo of herself in a funny pose in front of an objective: a knife in her hand and a pair handcuffs bound to her belt. Besides, after seeing a report about her homicides on television, Joanna is said to be delighted. While on the phone with one of her friends after killing the third victim he would sing “Ooops, I did it again (the title of a song by Britney Spears, editor’s note)”.
No explanation till now-An expert of serial killers, David Wilson, would try to explain the case of Joanna Dennehy like that: “She couldn’t make any difference between fantasy and reality any longer, she had completely lost the control of the situation”. She would tell that she had gone to prison for killing her father, but it wasn’t true. During the trial where she was the accused, Joanna admitted her faults without any explanation about her behaviour as a serial killer. Dr Lundrigan
hypothesized: “Once the limelight is off, maybe, she will make up her mind to explain why she did so, at least to continue attracting the interest of media and the public opinion”.
According to Dr. Lundrigan’s hypothesis what armed Joanna’s murderous hand is something psycho-sociological: a great longing to be considered by media. This theory has a very strong basis if we think that many stars of show business have said that once far away from limelight they have felt dead.
The psycho-sociological hypothesis has nothing to do with the mechanism at negative retroaction or genetic feedback linked to overpopulation with which in”The Intelligent Virus”, the behaviour of serial killers and, generally, any action of aggressiveness without reason are explained. To understand whether the episode of Joanna, like many other similar ones which, weekly or even daily media point out, may be explained with psyco-sociological theories and not on the base of the mechanism at genetic feedback, it is necessary to go back to the very remote past, that is to the mother of all massacres or we can say to the big bang of massacres, the one which Charles Joseph Whitman committed on 1st August 1966.
From that very remote date we’ll be able to go back to the episode of Joanna through the examples and explanations we can find in the chapter V-The Rebellious Angels-of” The Intelligent Virus”. In this chapter the phenomenon of serial killers, like the ones of cannibalism, murder of parents (matricide-parricide), infanticide (murderous mothers) is explained on the base of the genetic theory of the mechanism at negative retroaction or genetic feedback linked to overpopulation
