Why does the virus consider convenient self-mitigating and giving AIDS epidemic a chronic tendency? In order to answer this question we have to hypothesize what should have happened if the features of the two HIVs had been different since the beginning of the epidemic. Recently a HIV new variation called E subtype has appeared.
Concerning this let’s read what press says: “a very dangerous variation: while the most traditional B subtype is transmitted above all through blood contacts (lesions during a sexual intercourse, infected syringes, transfusions of infected blood products) a contact among mucosas is sufficient for the new virus to be transmitted”. This means that an E subtype can pass from a body to another not only through a normal unprotected heterosexual intercourse, but even, according to press information German sanitary authorities haven’t denied till now, with a single kiss.
The E subtype of the HIV-1 virus, already known in Germany for one year, was also isolated in the United States and in Brazil. Referring to a consideration from an American source the chance of catching the infection is, as to the E variation, 500 times higher as regards the B subtype. German authorities are, above all, worried about the striking swiftness with which the pathogen spread in the countries of South Eastern Asia. According to the figures given by Frank Goebel, a specialist at Monaco University, infections with the E subtype represented in those countries, in 1987, no more than 2% of the total amount, after ten years, in 1997, they were over 50%. And it’s just the area where there are the main destinations of the so called erotic tourism: above all Thailand and the Philippines. About half of the 300 thousand Germans make for those sites in search of exotic sex every year.
The E subtype transmission is possible also through intact mucosas, both genital and probably oral and, since the selection of the pathogen was determined by man, Burnet’s prediction about the characteristics a new virus should have to cause an epidemic in a developed country becomes quite true.
If since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic HIV had had the features of the new subtype, we should have had an epidemic at high transmissibility and mortality which should inevitably have been circumscribed in the country where it originated. But we can’t deny that in the future, when the traditional variations of the virus are definitively established, an epidemic more rapid for diffusion and mortality may occur. In this case only individuals who are genetically resistant to the virus should survive. The existence of the latter has already been confirmed and has caused an unjustified press rumour.
In fact we have seen that at a certain point some immune individuals appear in any epidemic. In the case of HIV immunity consists in a genetic mutation that is present in about 1% of white Europeans and prevents the host cell from helping the virus to infect it. Any prediction about the progress of AIDS epidemic isn’t therefore easy. Everything will depend on man habits. At the moment heterosexual intercourses are supplanting drug addiction as the most responsible ones for new cases.
In some Italian regions AIDS is the first death cause among young women.
Meanwhile what’s going on? It disappears and again on the spot, it scares, attracks.
Not being able like some colleagues to be trasmitted through the air, it can do so all the same thanks to the prisoners of the of the Brazilian penitentiary of Carandiru. The latter made rudimentary blowguns and by throwing needles wet with infected blood, they contaminated nine prison guards. After being accused of having infected, through blood transfusions, seventeen patients, fifteen of them died in an Argentine hospital, our hero (HIV) could have itself be acquitted by Horacio Piombo, a judge of the court of Appeal in La Plata with the motivation that “scientific evidences HIV can cause AIDS don’t exist”!
The judge followed some hypotheses that Peter Luesberg had advanced and had questioned the role of the retrovirus in AIDS.
On the contrary HIV could have a doctor condemned because he had effected an AIDS test on the employees of some Turin firms without the required consent.
From law HIV obtained the absolute secret about its activity, so that it can spread undisturbed. Also doctors, except some temerarious ones, hastened to conform with this conspiracy of silence. In no epidemic, in no medical and law treatise, the right of the community had been put after the right of the individual and even less after the right of a pathogen.
It’s still a mystery where the container with eight litres of blood contaminated by the AIDS virus which had fallen into the sea together with the Boeing 747 of the TWA in the famous disaster may be finished.
The blood, coming from America, was bound to Europe to be studied and metaphorically we could say the virus or some emissaries may have caused the plane to shoot down to prevent the blood from getting to Europe.
Not being satisfied with this the virus subsidizes by inducing its own victims to rob for its advantage. The impunity seropositives have by law lets them continue working for the virus propagation.
Since it apparently disappears, at least it seems like that through common researches, from the blood of seropositives, the microorganism makes the scientific community acclaim a miracle.
This way HIV can go on working undisturbed and infect more and more victims.
As it always happens to those who think of being too intelligent, at a certain point our friend(the virus) wants to surpass itself and be similar to God: that is it decides to revive its victims. A man, ill with AIDS, and decleared dead, revives after being abandoned in the morgue refrigerator for two days. Incredible, but it happened in a hospital of Cartagena, a city on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, and the protagonist is Miguel Garcia Noriega, a twenty-two year old young man, terminally ill with AIDS, but miraculously saved from a premature death which had been decreed by mistake. Metaphorically the virus can convince not only people can recover from AIDS but even revive.
